Birdwood Black 10-36 Defeated Lobethal Lights 5-19

Birdwood Black won the 2021 A grade final with a convincing 10-36 to 5-19 score line. With the Birdwood gym packed with spectators S. Nikaein, M. Weinhengst, D. Shulz, T. Gripton and N. Seagar got the regular season top team off to a flying start. A. King was the shining light for Lobethal winning an epic 5 set match against B. Teale. Birdwood continued their winning ways towards the premiership in the reverse singles gaining 4 of the rubbers to 2 with T. Hart getting a good win in a very entertaining match against M. Weinhengst. Lobethal gained 2 of the 3 doubles matches, but Birdwood had already claimed the 2021 premiership. Congratulations to all teams for another great season and here’s to the next!
B Grade
Harrogate 9-33 Defeated Lenswood Lions 6-22
Harrogate defeated Lenswood Lions 9-32 to 6-22 in the B grade grand final. After the 1st round of singles it was 3 all, but then Harrogate hit their straps and won the night by winning 5 of the reverse singles. Adam Wake, Simon Hogben, and Riley O’Shea were the stars for Harrogate winning both their singles matches. For the Lenswood Lions Mathew Martin stood out, being the only one to win both matches. The match of the night was between Adam Wake and Jaimen Rush with Jaimen winning the first 2 sets 20-18 and 11-7, before Adam Wake fought back strongly winning the next 3 games 11-5, 11-6 and 11-3.
C Grade
Lenswood 8-30 Defeated Harrogate Hooligans 7-23
It was a very close C grade grand final between Lenswood and Harrogate Hooligans. After the first round of singles, it was tied with 3 wins each. Jacob Snoad prevailed over Mitchell Pym in a five-set match while Abbie White for Harrogate downed Todd Thompson 11-9 in the fifth. Abbie White continued her dominance winning her reverse singles while Jacob Snoad and Matt Brock also won theirs, leaving things tied at 6 all with the doubles to decide the night. Liam Coulter and Jacob Snoad won the top double for Lenswood while Jordan Pym and Abbie White won the bottom double for Harrogate. It came down to the middle double with Matt Brock and Alicia Bartlett not feeling the pressure and securing Lenswood the win in straight sets and also the premiership.
D Grade
Harrogate Hawks 8-29 Defeated Lobethal Hunters 7-32
In a nail-biter finale the Harrogate Hawks welcomed the Lobethal Hunters to Charleston for the final derby of the season. The teams were very evenly matched throughout the season. At the end of the first set of singles matches Lobethal were ahead 4-2. By the end of the second round of singles Harrogate had evened the scores at 6 apiece. Notable mentions to Manfred Zobel from Harrogate, and Ila Tonkin and Jessica George from Lobethal for being the only players to win both their singles matches. The D-grade premiership was to be decided by the doubles matches. Harrogate won the top doubles match, with Manfred Zobel and Ethan Randall securing another win for Harrogate. The middle doubles went to Lobethal, with Ila and Jana Tonkin finishing the season with a win for the Hunters. With the scores even at 7-7, the bottom double was the decider. Grace Jaeger and Jessica George for Lobethal were outplayed by Anna Smolski and Josh Riordan from Harrogate. Victory went to the Harrogate Hawks, the final score so very close!
