Torrens Valley Table Tennis Association V Hills Table Tennis Association
On Tuesday night July 9th Inter association matches were played between Hills Table Tennis Association and Torrens Valley Table Tennis Association. Hills won the A Grade clash which was played at Lobethal 11-44 to 9-38 while in the B Grade match which was played at Hahndorf, Hills were also victorious with a 12-43 to 8-30 result.
Both matches were played in great spirit with the A Grade match very evenly contested with eight matches going the maximum five games. Hills Darren Juers looked down and out against Tyrone Hart at 8-11 10-12 13-13 before turning the match around winning the next two points and then the next two games 11-4 11-3.
Little separated Hills David Helbig and Torrens Valleys Todd Gripton throughout their clash with Helbig eventually claiming an 11-8 6-11 8-11 11-8 11-9 victory. Simon Hogben got one back for Torrens Valley winning in five against Steve Hooper 5-11 11-9 11-4 10-12 11-5.
Gripton and Hogben combined well to take the second double against Helbig, Hooper 11-7 11-8 5-11 7-11 13-11 closely followed by the fourth double where Hills Di Perkins, Carole Bungey also went the distance with a 11-8 9-11 11-7 9-11 11-2 win over Pauline Hart, Annette Schubert.
Torrens Valleys Eric Harrison won a tight tussle with Darren Juers 11-8 9-11 16-14 10-12 11-4 while Hills Greg Bungey won an epic thriller against T Hart 11-3 7-11 9-11 11-2 14-12.
Helbig played his third five game match for the night when he defeated Hogben 6-11 11-9 8-11 11-8 11-4.
Most consistent winners for Hills were Perry Edwards with three wins while Helbig, Alex Kern, Perkins and C Bungey picked up two wins each. Best for Torrens Valley were Harrison with three wins while Gripton, Hogben, and P Hart picked up two wins apiece.
In the B Grade match Torrens Valleys Tim Satchel won his opening single in five against John Hazel 11-4 10-12 11-7 5-11-11-7. Hills Shiralee Judge won an even contest with Joci Helbers 10-12 13-11 10-12 11-7 11-3. In the second double Hills Daryl Spillman, Martin Faull fought back from two games to love down to claim a 9-11 5-11 13-11 11-8 11-7 win against Michael Jaeger, Paul Arnup with Arnup exacting revenge in his reverse single with Faull 7-11 6-11 11-9 11-6 11-6.
Torrens Valleys Jeremy Jaeger won a close encounter with Malcolm Altmann 7-11 11-8 8-11 12-10 11-6. Best for Hills was the legendary Lucy Taylor who at number 1 and still playing in his eighties won all three matches for his association. Darryl Spillman also won all three as did Christene Pobke and Shiralee Judge. Torrens Valleys wins were evenly distributed.
