Torrens Valley Table Tennis Association V Hills Table Tennis Association
The annual Table Tennis inter-association matches between Hills and Torrens Valley were played last Tuesday night with Hills claiming bragging rights in both the A and B Grade matches. With teams of six men and two women the A Grade match was contested at Hahndorf Institute while the B Grade match was played at Lobethal Centennial Hall. The A Grade match was won by Hills Association 13-48 to 7-29. There were some close results throughout the night with five matches going the maximum five games.Torrens Valleys Eric Harrison won his single against Hills number 1 Ashley Hams 11-7 9-11 9-11 11-4 11-6. Hams had some success in the top double pairing with James Baker for a 11-3 11-13 15-13 8-11 11-6 victory over Harrison, Todd Gripton. Torrens Valleys Eric Jaeger won in five against Uli Henn 11-9 11-4 4-11 5-11 11-5 then backed it up with an 11-7 14-12 4-11 7-11 11-7 result against Steve Hooper. Hills Darren Stanbury had a ripper contest against Tyrone Hart bagging a 9-11 11-9 11-4 4-11 11-2 win. Best for Torrens Valley were Jaeger with three wins Harrison two singles and Julian Bedford a single and double while Hills Stanbury, Kathy Clarke and Gabby Hams were unbeaten all night.
The B Grade match was a little closer with Hills 11-38 defeating Torrens Valley 9-39. Closest matches of the night included Hills Octogenarian Lucy Taylor coming back from two games down to win 8-11 7-11 11-8 11-3 11-2 against Addison McCarthy while Fergus Wilson won an epic battle with Torrens Valleys Aish James-Wake 9-11 6-11 11-8 11-9 12-10. Wilson teamed up with his father Graham to win the third double against James-Wake and Geoff Symons 11-8 12-10 9-11 9-11 11-8. The top double was a close affair also with Torrens Valleys McCarthy combining well with Adam Wake for a 11-6 5-11 7-11 11-8 11-7 result against Taylor and Alex Kern. Best for Hills were F Wilson and Di Perkins who were unbeaten while Taylor, Malcolm Plunkett, and G Wilson each won two. For Torrens Valley McCarthy, Wake, Ben Turner and Paul Arnup each won two matches.
