Torrens Valley Table Tennis Association V Hills Table Tennis Association
The Torrens Valley Table Tennis Association completed a clean sweep of interassociation matches for season 2022. After claiming victory against Northeast Hills association earlier in the season Torrens Valley enjoyed more success this time against the Hills Association in both A and B Grade.
In the A Grade match which was played at Lobethal Hills matched it with Torrens Valley in the doubles but it was the singles where Torrens Valley dominated winning 12 out of 16. There were some great individual clashes none more so than Torrens Valleys Dave Schulz vs Hills number 1 John Haskey with Haskey setting the tone early on in the match only for Schulz to work his way into and then take control for a 8-11 5-11 11-9 11-9 11-7 victory. Hills Darren Coulter playing in his first interassociation match pushed Ollie Hughes to the limit before just falling short 11-8 4-11 9-11 11-9 7-11. Arguably the best match of the night was Torrens Valleys most experienced campaigner the evergreen Audrey King vs Hills up and coming star Gabby Hams with King summoning all her table tennis nous for a 12-10 5-11 11-13 11-7 17-15 win. Final scores were Torrens Valley 14-49 to Hills 6-30. Best for Hills were David Helbig winning three from three while Haskey and Simon Byrne each won two. For Torrens Valley Hughes, Eric Jaeger Mary Harrison and King were all undefeated while Schulz scored two great singles wins.
In the B Grade match which was played at Hahndorf Torrens Valley romped to a 14-47 to 6-33 win though there were eight matches that went to the maximum five games with only two of these going Hills way. To make matters worse for Hills four of their losses were 11-9 in the fifth game.Adam Wake started proceedings with an 11-6 8-11 3-11 12-10 11-6 win against Hills B Grade number 1 Malcolm Plunkett. Addison McCarthy followed suit with an 11-9 10-12 11-6 10-12 11-9 result over Hills Tim Satchell. Paul Arnup made it three from three for Torrens Valley with a 5-11 11-6 15-13 5-11 11-9 result over Chad Harrop who's luck did not improve in the reverse singles either narrowly going down to Julian Bedford 13-11 11-9 7-11 4-11 9-11. McCarthy pipped Plunkett at the post for an 11-8 11-8 11-13 8-11 11-9 result. Best for Hills were Mick Phillips and Christine Pobke who each won two while for Torrens Valley McCarthy, Wake and Arnup won all their matches and Bedford, Damien Haese and Vaine Tamiau each won two.
