Torrens Valley Table Tennis Association V Hills Table Tennis Association
The Torrens Valley Table Tennis Association played against the Hills Table Tennis Association in a slightly different format this year. Instead of each association fielding an A grade and B grade side each association fielded 1 team of 10 players. The Hills top end proved too strong for Torrens Valley with John Haskey and Ashley Hams beating Eric Jaeger and Darren Stanbury. Stanbury pushed Hams all the way with Hams winning in the 5th 13-11. Todd Gripton recorded the first win for Torrens Valley with a good win over Alex Kern. Brayden Green, Damien Haese and Scott McCarthy followed suit with strong wins for Torrens Valley, while Hara Taverna, Gabby Hams and Darren Coulter won for Hills.
In the doubles Darren Stanbury and Eric Jaeger combined well to beat the Hills combination of Haskay and David Helbig in 5 sets. Hills’ other doubles combinations proved too strong though winning 3 of the 5 double rubbers on offer.
In the reverse singles Hills again dominated winning 7 rubbers. Torrens Valley’s Haese played one of the best games of the night against Hills’ Chad Harrop. Haese jumped out to a 2 set lead before Harrop won the next 2. Harrop kept the roll going jumping out to 5-1 lead in the 5th. At the change of ends points went both ways evenly with Harrop holding his 5 point advantage to be 10-5 in front. With no margin for error Haese fought back and took the set and the match 10-12. Despite these heroics Hills won the night 16-59 to Torrens Valley 9-39. Best players for the Hills were John Haskey, Ashley Hams, Jim Coombe, Gabby Hams and David Coulter. Best players for Torrens Valley were Brayden Green and Damien Haese who won both their singles.
