26-07-2023
Torrens Valley Table Tennis Association racked up another win against the Northeast Hills Table Tennis Association with a 13-42 to 7-33 scoreline. Inspired by the new Torrens Valley shirt Darren Stanbury played the match of the first round against James Phillips winning 12-10 in the fifth set. Simon Hogben also played in a five setter against Josh Smiech winning 11-6. Torrens Valley enjoying a good opening round to take the lead 5-3.
In the reverse singles Eric Jaeger played an epic match against Frank Laskowski. Eric won the first two sets comfortably before Frank dialled in his radar and started getting his attacking shots on, winning the next two sets. In the fifth Frank thought he had lost the match at 10-8 when he hit a shot that was seemingly going long before just nicking the edge of the table. From here on both players had multiple opportunities to win the match before Eric finally won 21-19. Todd Gripton also had a close match against Josh Smiech winning 11-5 in the fifth.
In the doubles Torrens Valley won all the pairings except for the top pairing of Jamie Ey and James Phillips proving too strong for Darren Stanbury and Mark Weinhengst. Jamie Ey was the star player as usual for North East Hills winning all his matches. While Ollie Hughes, Simon Hogben and the ever reliable table tennis veteran Audrey King won all their matches for Torrens Valley.
Thanks to all the players especially the North East Hills players venturing into the cold of the Hills. Also thanks to the Birdwood Table Tennis Club for Hosting an enjoyable evening.
