PAUL ARNUP TVTTA LIFE MEMBERSHIP AWARDED 6 SEPTEMBER 2017 Paul Arnup was awarded life membership of the Torrens Valley Table Tennis Association at the Presentation night following the grand finals last Wednesday night. He began playing table tennis in the TVTTA in 1974 and has played every season since- 44 consecutive seasons. Since 1979, he has captained every team for which he has played; 39 seasons. He started his TVTTA career playing for Birdwood. In 1980, he formed Forreston Table Tennis Club and won B Grade premierships in 1986, 1993, 1994 and 1996. He captained their first A Grade premiership in 1997, and went on to win two more for them in 2001 and 2004. In 2005, Forreston combined with Mt. Torrens and Paul again helped them to claim their first premiership. He went on to play for Woodside- Harrogate and then for Woodside Outriders. In 2014, they won the A Grade premiership- his fifth. He currently captains the Lobethal Lights and won all three of his matches in this season’s grand final. Paul has held various positions in the Association committees, but is most noted for his decades of work as a Tournament organiser- for over a decade serving on this sub-committee and for the past nine years as solo organiser. In his acceptance speech, he encouraged fellow TVTTA players to experience, like him, the rewards from taking active roles in the running of their clubs. He looked back fondly on the social aspect of playing a sport which allows great opportunity to chat and to get to know better both team-mates and opponents. |
