TVTTA LIFE MEMBERSHIP AWARDED 7th SEPTEMBER 2022

Rod Matthews was awarded life membership of the Torrens Valley Table Tennis Association at the Presentation night following the grand finals last Wednesday night.

Rod Matthews started playing table tennis for Nairne in 1980 and played for around five years before taking a hiatus for about 20 years to concentrate on playing football. He was recruited to Woodside Table Tennis club by Lena Shepherd who he was working with at the canteen of Nairne Football Club around 2007.

He has played in a B Grade premiership in 2018 and a C Grade premiership as well. He was President of Torrens Valley Table Tennis Association for four years from 2012-2015 and Vice President for many more. As President he oversaw the Handicapping system which encouraged more players to come up and get a taste of A Grade which has ultimately strengthened the A Grade competition and boosted team numbers in that grade. He has been President of the Woodside Table Tennis Club along with Brian Irvine as Treasurer for the past ten seasons.
